Supporting Gender Independent Kids: Rainbow Health Ontario

“My daughter’s gender is not a problem… It’s everything else around her that’s a problem.”

THESE are the words of Paul – proud father to an 8-year-old Gender Independent Kid called Raine, and one of a growing number of parents who are refusing the mental health model of the past, which once diagnosed kids like Raine with Gender Identity Disorder. The path to health and wellbeing, say these parents, is welcoming Gender Independent Kids as they are, in their families, schools, and communities. As it happens, a growing number of health and mental health providers agree, and Rainbow Health Ontario is launching a series of new brochures for parents, and new training opportunities for service providers, to help make this a reality.
