“I Want Them to Know Who They Are Is Ok”: Supporting Trans and Gender Non-Conforming Students – A Guide for Primary and Secondary School Educators

Many children and youth, as well as many adults, do not fit the mould of what a “girl” or “boy” is supposed to be. They do not express their gender in stereotypical or expected ways or identify with the gender assigned to them at birth. Obviously, these children are also part of our educational system and our schools. However, these students, and their unique experiences and needs, are all too often forgotten and ignored and thus they face innumerable hurdles and hardships that their peers may not. The purpose of this guide is to provide primary and secondary school educators and staff with the tools to be more supportive and inclusive of trans and gender non-conforming students.
