Queer Parenting Programs at The 519 honour and celebrate sexual orientation and gender diversity in families. We promote and foster the health and well-being of LGBTQ parents, prospective and expectant parents, grandparents, caregivers, our children and extended families. We promote and foster the health and well-being of families with young gender independent and/or trans children. We do this by providing a variety of family planning, pre-natal and family support programming and events, as well as personal support and community education.
- We promote the human rights ideal that we all have the right to be safe, strong and free (see le centre ontarien de prévention des agressions – COPA).
- We proactively acknowledge and support children’s knowledge about their own feelings, interests and emerging identities.
- We acknowledge and address the many ways we are taught to feel fear and shame when we or our children do not conform to certain gender expectations.
- Our programs work to create healthy supportive spaces for our families and our children in our queer and trans communities and in communities at large.
